CNY - eve and day ;)

I'm pretty sure I got so many things I wanted to write about CNY dinner on that day but now I just have a big cloud blocking it - which now leave me to write just bits and pieces that I could remember.

I think I'm gonna change my strategy in catching up the post, I'll post the newer event first so it's still fresh in my mind and then slowly going back to the old posts -wait how does it work? umm.. maybe hopefully by then I can remember more the old events? Hm..doesn't sound like a good strategy anymore eh? Oh well we'll see whichever works :)

Back in time, straight after Deus we head to Moco's parents place and greeted by a sexy chick (yet so unlucky) on the table

It's not alone, its companion the duck just rested next to it, not the best shot but Moco's mom was in a hurry to prepare the prosperity salad and trust me I had no intention to delay it ;)

So yeh luckily we managed to come in time just before Moco's mom do some chopping and transform this..

and this..

To this..!

OH..It's so yummy and refreshing to have this salad in CNY since it's almost always fall in Summer

I missed out the making of the shark fin soups so could only took photos of the after-math..

Personally I like the other type of soup that we had in previous CNY - it's the recipe from Moco's grandad so it doesn't feel just like a typical shark fin soups but of course won't complain with this either. Don't forget to add a teaspoon of XO to the soup..delish!

Most of the food were ready to be heated up as well

The trademark fish..

Remember to place the fish to face inside for some luck!

Sea cucumber and Abalone pot

Marinated chicken wings - from memory was left untouched, why eat chicken if you can eat the salad hehe

On the next day, which is the real CNY day we had much simpler meal. By that I mean, no meat involved. Traditionally they have a vegetarian day but Moco and I were specially treated, we're allowed to have meat as long our first meal was a vegetarian. Again I never complained, I love veggies anyway :)

Cleansing soup..

Assorted mushrooms

More Veggies..

The Yin and Yang beancurd and mushroom - how creative is Moco's mom?!

"The so-called prawns"

"The so-called salty fish"

Let's pray and eat :)

Oh and this year we also managed to go to the temple! Moco's mom normally prefer to go the night before so it wasn't too busy but I remember that night we had a thunderstorm.

It's sprinkling a little bit when we went but surely didn't stop people to come and queued for the free vegetarian noodle from the temple!

apparently it's you'll be lucky if you can throw the coin into the hole :)

Busy business this year!

Oh so hard to get the photo, so many people were trying to push in to get some red bags!!

'Till next CNY folks! Hope it's not too late to say may this Dragon year will bring good luck to all of you :)

Deus

I remember we had brunch at Deus on 14th February, not because of Valentine's day but because it was Chinese New Year and we needed to go to Moco's parents for dinner so we decided to have only one meal before the dinner.

We got there about 11ish I think, and the queue was already long. I couldn't say the place was small, cause it wasn't that small. So it's just really full because there were lots of people, it's quite interesting since I didn't find the cafe's location is convenient where people can just walk pass through and what's more interesting the cafe is also selling bikes and bikes related items!

We had to wait quite a while for our food but thankfully we didn't have to wait too long for our coffees. Being me, I actually moved a couple of times until I was satisfied to find a small cozy spot at the corner. Yeah it's busy but I refused to sit in front of the loo or being squeezed to fit into the long communal table =p

Moco's brunch was not my cup of tea, in fact the prosciutto freaked me out a little bit ( I don't know, I'm just not a fan of cold meat) but the poached egg on the top of the asparagus was absolutely great.

I ordered the sausage and beans which apparently one of the popular dishes there. But I think my highlight was the fresh spinach leaf on the top of my sausage, it really balanced the taste of good and evil in my mouth ;0

I think it's a cozy place to catch up with friends but if you just wanted to have a quick bite, it's not recommended to go there on weekends brunch :)

Chong Siam

Ugh don't know where to start, two weeks after we moved in there are still boxes that we haven't unpacked, let alone try and catch up with the blog. Lame excuse I know.

But hey the moment has come, I am now trying to do my best and aim to catch up by this week since next week I'll be away for more than a month (will still take food photos during holiday of course but don't think I'll have the Internet access handy there..)

OK let's roll.

As you're already now, Moco and I are not big fans of lining up for Chat Thai, however every time we 'had' to go out for dinner there we always passed this Thai restaurant not far from it, probably just 4 shops away? So that night we finally decided to give it a go.

The photo at the front of the restaurant that lured us was the soft shell crab Pad Thai, so it would be a crime if we didn't order that.

It's actually quite interesting since I've never had Pad Thai in that style before, plus I'm really picky with the rice noodle that's been used, it gotta be the right width, the right stickiness and of course the right taste all of which was dutifully applied - teehee!

The Boat Soup that we thought would come first as an entree actually came last. It's quite yummy for a $4 soup although it's also quite oily (yesh there's a high correlation between being oily and yummy).

The other dish we ordered that night was the Rad-Na, which I truly enjoyed. The flat noodles and the gravy were just the perfect match (I remember I almost burnt my tongue due to my impatience that night,it was more than a month ago but really it feels just like yesterday)
I just realized the Rad-Na photo is blurry, hm..let's just say it's the ambience of the restaurant =p

There's also another dish that attracted us that night but we're too full. Well for me the restaurant offers good food, great prices and no queue so surely there would be a next time for me to show you the dish :)
