Dragon Bowl Seafood Restaurant

When Moco said his dad wanted to take us to try a new Chinese restaurant, I was almost fainted *exaggeration mode on*. I have never been to a new restaurant with his dad. We always go to the restaurants that he's already been for ages. So this must be his NY resolution to try something new (or so I assumed).

Very honest restaurant. They certainly don't want to take blames for MSG side effects complaints ;)

Hm..kimchi in a chinese restaurant? that's new.

Cleansing soup..

Fresh fish ready to be cooked

Dinner time, let's rock and roll!!

First dish, giant scallop with vermicelli and XO sauce.

generous vermicelli and fresh scallop..yumm..

The signature dish, crackling pork skin with garlic chives. I find this dish is interesting, very oily but very addictive too hehe.

Prawn and scallop balls, pretty good but still can't beat the one from Moco's dad favorite restaurant. There's a reason why Moco's dad always go there for the past 20 years.

Salt and pepper squid mixed with white bait, definitely got Moco's attention.

The fresh steam fish, another Moco's territory, pretty sure he finished 1/2 of the fish himself.

ahh..service :)

The usual red bean dessert

Ah just the thought of all the food that night made me hungry now although I don't know is it because the MSG warning or if it's true, but we did think the food was MSG overloaded and felt so thirst afterwards lol.

The Poet

Okay I've been really bad in uploading new posts, but yesterday I promised myself I will do one more post in 2010. I've got precisely three more hours before the year ends..

So here we go..literally our last meal in 2010..

pretty red teapot..

oh it might be a 'lil be sad, but not many Chinese resto give free prawn crackers, so I better take evidence.

deep fried chicken with Sichuan chili. It was silly of me to challenge Moco to eat the dried chili. I can't feel my tongue for two minutes.

eggplant with mince pork and fish sauce, love the generous ginger

xiao long bao - surprisingly nice! well our first judgement the skin looked a bit thick, but it was very tasty and soupy :)

not a big fan for handmade noodle, but Moco always in the mission to find a good handmade noodle.

the lot

A bit of a rush, but at least I get to keep my promise :)

Now that my mission is done, I better get ready to see the fireworks!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!

See you soon in 2011 - trust me is one of my new year's resolutions is to post more, wish me luck!

Taste of Shanghai part 2

So far it seems that my plan to catch up with the blog before I go overseas this Sunday will most likely to be fail. Didn't say that because I'm a pessimist, but mostly because I'm trying to be realistic. 20 posts to go and imagine how many posts I have to do after 7 weeks of holidays!

Let's make it 19 posts to go..shall we?

A while ago we went to this dumpling joint in World Square because Din Tai Fung was closed and left us with no choice. But this time we actually went there because we wanted to :)

I remember it was on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago, I was having a bad day so I decided I just had to get a good dinner to compensate!

For the starters we ordered the usual siao lung bao...

And then it gets better with these fried dumplings and the usual minced pork with green beans:

I always wanted to try the crab with salty egg, but I thought I should wait for a larger crowd to share it with. But not that night, I wanted it and I shall have it bwahahaha (I had a bad day remember?) Anyway I sorted out the craving but dang that salty egg was so salty (DOH..) And just sharing it between us two, we ended up with so much left over lol..

It won't take genius to work out what we ate for the next few days...

CNY - eve and day ;)

I'm pretty sure I got so many things I wanted to write about CNY dinner on that day but now I just have a big cloud blocking it - which now leave me to write just bits and pieces that I could remember.

I think I'm gonna change my strategy in catching up the post, I'll post the newer event first so it's still fresh in my mind and then slowly going back to the old posts -wait how does it work? umm.. maybe hopefully by then I can remember more the old events? Hm..doesn't sound like a good strategy anymore eh? Oh well we'll see whichever works :)

Back in time, straight after Deus we head to Moco's parents place and greeted by a sexy chick (yet so unlucky) on the table

It's not alone, its companion the duck just rested next to it, not the best shot but Moco's mom was in a hurry to prepare the prosperity salad and trust me I had no intention to delay it ;)

So yeh luckily we managed to come in time just before Moco's mom do some chopping and transform this..

and this..

To this..!

OH..It's so yummy and refreshing to have this salad in CNY since it's almost always fall in Summer

I missed out the making of the shark fin soups so could only took photos of the after-math..

Personally I like the other type of soup that we had in previous CNY - it's the recipe from Moco's grandad so it doesn't feel just like a typical shark fin soups but of course won't complain with this either. Don't forget to add a teaspoon of XO to the soup..delish!

Most of the food were ready to be heated up as well

The trademark fish..

Remember to place the fish to face inside for some luck!

Sea cucumber and Abalone pot

Marinated chicken wings - from memory was left untouched, why eat chicken if you can eat the salad hehe

On the next day, which is the real CNY day we had much simpler meal. By that I mean, no meat involved. Traditionally they have a vegetarian day but Moco and I were specially treated, we're allowed to have meat as long our first meal was a vegetarian. Again I never complained, I love veggies anyway :)

Cleansing soup..

Assorted mushrooms

More Veggies..

The Yin and Yang beancurd and mushroom - how creative is Moco's mom?!

"The so-called prawns"

"The so-called salty fish"

Let's pray and eat :)

Oh and this year we also managed to go to the temple! Moco's mom normally prefer to go the night before so it wasn't too busy but I remember that night we had a thunderstorm.

It's sprinkling a little bit when we went but surely didn't stop people to come and queued for the free vegetarian noodle from the temple!

apparently it's you'll be lucky if you can throw the coin into the hole :)

Busy business this year!

Oh so hard to get the photo, so many people were trying to push in to get some red bags!!

'Till next CNY folks! Hope it's not too late to say may this Dragon year will bring good luck to all of you :)

Joy Cafe and Superbowl

My first Indo's hens nite here! and to celebrate it we had dinner in an Indo restaurant =p

Well that's what happened but we actually didn't plan to have dinner there, initially we just wanted to have a snack!

ragout rissole with peanut sauce

But looked what we ended up with..

lontong sayur (rice dumplings and chicken with curry sauce)

nasi uduk (coconut rice with fried chicken and side dishes)

signature chicken noodle - my friend put way too much chili. Too hot for everyone!

Tongseng (goat curry) - this is surprisingly yummy hehe

After dinner we went to buy some snacks and got back to the hotel. However at 1am we decided it's time for another snacks. So we head back to chinatown to get some chilli fish balls!

Fishball attack!

Refreshing drink for the heat

I guess it always started as a snack but again look what we ended up with...

Salt and pepper deep fried tofu (quite pricey though $16.80 for this?)

Pork mince congee - never say no to congee :)

Never ate so much for a hens nite before!!
